"The absence of fill light gives d.p. Martin's photos a semi-skeletal, de-eroticised distance look"

Welcome to the Black & White Fine Art Nude Gallery of Photography – a collection of black and white prints by Irish Photographer d.p. Martin.  His fine art nude series captures the beauty, mystery and classical elegance of the female nude form in shades of film noir amidst the shadows of light and darkness.

Martin adheres to the ideals of the purest form of black and white photography and each of his fine art classical black & white photographs are printed individually by hand and crafted in a labour intensive fashion in a traditional darkroom environment.

All black and white photographs shown on this gallery web site were shot with either medium format (Bronica SQ) or 35mm (Nikon) cameras that produce incredibly sharp and detailed negatives.

Traditional black and white darkroom printing techniques are almost a thing of the past.  Few photographers continue to use film negatives these days in the age of digital media where speed is the over-riding concern. However, the images produced by film negative and those images printed using time honoured traditional darkroom techniques, go beyond the mass produced digital image and computerised ink jet printed format.

“Working in the darkroom is a very spiritual experience for me – you are completely focused on the interplay of light and darkness in each image as it is exposed on light sensitive photographic paper and as it is passed through a series of chemical trays, you observe the beauty and mystery of the classical nude form, as the image – Image Noir et Blanc - comes to life in front of your eyes” -   d.p. Martin
